Communication

This weeks sign is waiting. We use this sign to help the children tolerate delay when their needs/wants can not be immediately met. We also use it to encourage turn taking.

This week we are supporting children to use the Stop sign. This enables the children to manage situations when they may have conflict with another child. It is also used by staff when a child's behaviour is unsafe. 

Here at Earlham we use common signs in our everyday practice such as more, please sorry, stop etc. We also use sign related to our topic and in our approach to help every child become a successful communicator. Signalong assists with developing vocabulary, children with communication difficulties or English as an additional language. Signalong is a key word sign-supported communication system based on British sign language and is used in spoken word order. It uses speech, sign, body language, facial expression and voice tone to reference the link between sign and word. Please join us in learning our sign of the week. Please check back here weekly.
