Cultural Curriculum at Earlham Nursery School

Since January 2023 most of the children who will be moving on to school in September have been participating in a project with Norwich Castle Museum. It has been a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore a new location in Norwich, build their confidence and explore the wonderful exhibits on display. We completed the project this week, when Emma came to visit us in school and supported the children to be curators and set up their own museum in school! Every child received a certificate during the award ceremony and a gift from the museum. We also received a number of free tickets for families to be able to visit the museum together!

At Earlham Nursery School we are passionate about offering our children a broad and rich curriculum, which includes lots of opportunities to explore the local community, the city of Norwich and Norfolk. Children regularly visit the local park, take their shopping lists to Aldi's, in preparation for their weekly cooking sessions and walk to the post box to post their letters and thank you cards.

We are a member of Marlpit Community Gardens, and have established links with the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts.

We are very lucky to be situated in the wonderful city of Norwich, and the children have had the opportunity to explore its riches. We have been knights at the the Castle, enjoyed the wonders of the Cathedral, bought produce for our cooking session at the amazing market, been announcers at the railway station and scientists at the Forum. During the project to developed our dining room, an elected group of children visited a number of cafes and restaurants in Norwich to gather ideas to share with their peers and to inform their decision making. They then took their proposal for improvements to the Headteacher for consideration, and to secure some funding for their improvements.

Linked to class themes children have visited Thrigby Hall Wildlife Garden's, Wroxham Barnes, the Sea Life Centre at Great Yarmouth and taken the train the Sherringham where they have been brave and dipped their toes in the rather chilly sea!

International Mud Day!

Each year all the children come together in our wonderful garden to celebrate International Mud Day. We all join in lots of different activities, including mark making, potion making in our mud kitchen, exploring mud and our exciting mud slide!

Swimming in Fox Class

Before the pandemic all the children in Fox Class had the opportunity to swim once a week for half a term. We were very grateful to Harford Manor School for letting us use their pool.

We are hoping to start up again as soon as Covid19 restrictions allow.

Hatching Chicks

Each year we are very lucky to be able to hatch chicks at nursery. The children care for the eggs, checking them with a torch to observe the if the egg contact a chick and how it is developing. We then care for chicks once they have hatched!

Our 80th Birthday Celebration!

In June 2019 we held a party to celebrate the 80th birthday of Earlham Nursery School. We had a fantastic day and were so please to be able to share the day with parents, governors, staff who had previously worked at the school, our friends from Germany and Malawi, friends from our community and local dignitaries. We planted a tree and buried a time capsule and enjoyed a lovely picnic and cake!

Family Science Day

Each year, in addition to the planned science activities included in a our half termly themes, we hold a Science Week. During this week all the children have the opportunity to investigate a wide range of scientific challenges. The week culminates in a family science day, where we invite families to come and join their children to explore a selection of scientific investigations.
