Nursery School

Marlpit Community Gardens

The Marlpit Community Gardens are a short walk from our Nursery, so whenever we get the chance we take groups of children to visit. Here are some of the things that we get up to.

Recently on a Tuesday afternoon we have been receiving a visit from Rose from the Sustainable Living Initiative, she brings along with her some different fruits and vegetables that they grow themselves down at the Marlpit allotments. We have used these in the classrooms to explore the different kinds of vegetables that you don't regularly find in the local supermarket. Once the children have explored these in the Classroom they are then passed onto our wonderful cook Bridie, who so far has made some winter berry crumbles and a variety of soups. Take a look below to see the different kinds of fruit and veg that we have been receiving at Earlham Nursery School.

We look forward to sharing with you some of Bridie's creations!

When we first arrive at the gardens we look at the map and talk about what we're going to be doing and how we keep safe while we're here.

There are lots of different flowers, fruits and vegetables that need taking care of. The children help to prepare the ground for planting and give the plants plenty of water to drink.

Once the fruit and vegetables are fully grown the children help to harvest them and take them back to Nursery to share with the other children...if there are any left!

The children love to pay the horses a visit, and even sometimes get to feed them.
